JJ Watt, football’s most dominant defensive player, will co-host the Country Music Television Awards on June 8th. The three-time defensive player of the year will host the awards alongside sports personality Erin Andrews in the ceremony that will take place in Nashville, TN and will air on CMT at 8:00 p.m. The strategy of bringing one of the most popular players in the game to host the CMTs is very clever because it will not only give regular viewers something to look forward to, but also it will help boost the ratings.

JJ Final

JJ Watt has only been playing in the NFL for five seasons but year after year his numbers and on-field performance improve. The Houston Texans defensive end has shattered team records in sacks and forced fumbles; is tied with his childhood idol, Lawrence Taylor, with three defensive player of the year awards; has been selected to four Pro-Bowls; JJ Softballhas been the only defensive player to be ranked #1 in the Top 100 Players of the Year; and has been the NFL sacks leader in two seasons among many other milestones. In addition to all these impressive numbers and accomplishments, what makes Watt a perfect bet for the CMTs is his charisma both on and off the field. People find in JJ a great role model, his “Dream Big Work Hard” philosophy resonates both with kids and adults. He is also great with fans, for example one of his pre-game activities is to go around the field and play catch with fans (both Texans and non-Texans fans). He also hosts a yearly celebrity softball game in Houston to raise funds for the JJ Watt Foundation, an organization dedicated to provide after-school opportunities for middle-school aged children to become involved in athletics.

JJ Watt is a big country music fan and lately he has been an active part of this music scene. He has shot commercials with his buddies from the Zac Brown Band, and even appeared in one of their concerts where he tackled a fan that rushed the stage. What really closed the deal, in my opinion, with the CMT executives that chose him to host the awards show, was his appearance in last year’s ceremony with other Texans players.

I am 100% sure that JJ will put on an amazing show in this year’s CMT Awards where country music superstars like Blake Shelton, Chris Stapleton, Florida Georgia Line, Jason Aldean, Keith Urban, Luke Bryan, and Thomas Rhett among others are scheduled to perform. Be sure to tune in!
